Our Commitment to Accessibility
Pearl of Africa Adventures strives to ensure that its website is accessible to people with disabilities. We have invested significant resources to help ensure that our website is made easier to use and more accessible for people with disabilities, with the strong belief that every person has the right to live with dignity, equality, comfort and independence.
Conformance Status
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Pearl of Africa Adventures is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.
We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website and in doing so adhere to many available standards and guidelines. Our goal is that this website will meet Level AA success criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1.
To ensure this, we are committed to regularly re-evaluating our website, including undertaking usability testing with disabled users, and acting upon feedback provided.
Accessibility Features
- Semantic HTML: We use semantic HTML5 elements to structure our content, providing clear meaning for assistive technologies.
- Alternative Text: All images have descriptive alternative text to convey their meaning to users who cannot see them. For example, an image showing a gorilla in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest would have the alt text: "A silverback gorilla sits amongst the lush foliage of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda."
- Keyboard Navigation: Our website is fully navigable using a keyboard, allowing users to access all content and functionality without a mouse.
- Color Contrast: We have carefully chosen color combinations to ensure sufficient contrast between text and background, making it easier for users with visual impairments to read.
- Resizable Text: Users can easily increase or decrease the text size using browser settings without losing content or functionality.
- Clear and Consistent Navigation: Our website has a clear and consistent navigation structure, making it easy for users to find what they are looking for.
- Forms: All form fields have properly associated labels, making it easier for users to understand the purpose of each field.
- ARIA Attributes: We use ARIA attributes where necessary to enhance the accessibility of interactive elements.
- Video Captions and Transcripts: All videos include captions and transcripts, providing access to audio content for users who are deaf or hard of hearing.
